Getting On Paula’s List of Blogger Salaries

If you don’t know who Paula Mooney is you need to take a good long look at your self in the mirror. If your a respectable blogger you should know that she put together one of the best linkbaits in recent blog history.

Im not saying it was the greatest, but it surely ranks high up there.

What Did She Do?

Paula put together a list of the highest paid bloggers, or all bloggers that would publish their incomes and she arranged it from top to bottom with the highest salaries at the top, and the lowest at the bottom (DUH). The amount of work she must have put into this list is amazing, not just because she organized everything so nicely. But because of the fact that not all bloggers list their income publically on their site like me of course. Let’s take problogger for an example, we all know he is taking in the cash, but do we know how much exactly? NO! But Paula did some CSI work and read through posts and posts and came to a rough estimate, now imagine doing this 20-30 times for your list of 116 bloggers!

What Makes This Good Link Bait?

Well lets think about this for a second and try to understand why this has all the makings of a good link bait.

  1. It was a list of Bloggers: This means they all have the means to post a link to the article, I could write the perfect article on mothers against the use of oven cleaners in the bedroom, but those mothers dont have blogs or websites where they could link to my perfect article, you can replace “mothers against the use of oven cleaners in the bedroom” with any topic or niche of your choice.
  2. It’s Controversial: I mean think about it, lets say a blogger gets mad that he was listed as number 69 instead of as number 32. He will post about it on his blog and let you know that hes pissed. He’ll let his readers know that hes pissed. I mean even I get pissed off sometimes. And as you can see even though im pissed at my fellow blogger I was still good enough to give him 2 links. And I for a fact know that you readers have clicked through to his site, how do I know this? I’ll tell you later.
  3. It strokes Ego’s: Everyone on that list is happy to be there, I mean I know I was stoked about it. Lots of other bloggers were as well, you can check out John Chow, even he has linked to it. I haven’t checked out all the other bloggers but im sure she got quite a few backlinks.
  4. It’s Viral: When the first article came out there were about 20 spin off articles with people comparing the alexa with salaries and other linear charts and all this other crazy stuff, I don’t remember them all.

That’s all for now kids. If you liked this article then subscribe to the damn RSS Feed im tired of telling you THIS!

She baited me! I saw the list right after it came out. It was actually quite motivational… and yet depressing at the same time. :)
