Advertising Your Proxy
In Part I and II we discused how to setup the proxy with regards to the script we used and the domain name. In this part we will discuss how to advertise the proxy. Most people think that once they have setup a proxy the traffic will start to flow there.WRONG. This is the basic assumption that most new webmasters make and it leaves to them asking a lot of questions in the forums.
There are two types of traffics for proxies. Good traffic and bad traffic. Good traffic is people that sign in from work or school go to myspace or any other site that their network has blocked and sign off, this traffic is usually organic, very targetted and much more likely to click on ads. This is the type of traffic that you definatly want to try to target, the conversion rate on this type of traffic is very high.
Bad traffic is people that leach off your resources by hotlinking through your proxy. It is very improtant that you put an end to this. This type of traffic usually originates from countries that have their whole internet network with filters on it, examples of countries that ban their internet users are: North Korea, China, Iran, UAE, and more. Traffic originating from these countries not only has a low conversion rate, and of the few that do click on a link are WORTHLESS. Most of the time these people don’t even visit your homepage with the ads on it, so you have to put an end to this asap.
Back to the main point of this post which was advertising! Here are the following ways which I think are the best bet:
- Top Lists
- Search Engines
- Proxy.Org
- Foreign Blogs
- Link Exchanges
- Chat Rooms
You may ask why top lists come before search engines. The answer is very simple, you need links to get indexed. Proxy top lists are usually older proxies that got a page rank or the owner couldn’t handle the traffic anymore and decided to open a proxy top list. When signing up with a proxy top list, try to use the same title for everyone. Use a phrase like “Myspace Proxy” or “Myspace Unblocker”, the relevance of this will come into effect when we talk about search engines. Another great thing about top sites is that they will also lead to you getting a Page Rank at the next update, if you are smart you can get a PR4 very easily by just siging up for a few top sites. My favourite top site and the only one I have ever gotten any good incoming visitors from is: Pirate Proxies
Search engines are great because they bring in natural traffic. People are looking for a proxy and if they come to your page from Google than that means they probably found what they were looking for. In the top lists section we talked about signing up with a phrase for the title, if you sign up for about 6-7 top sites with the same phrase this means that after a month you will be ranking very high in Google for your desired keyword. I have no idea how SEO works, but after siging up for a few top sites with the phrase “Myspace Unblocker” I was ranking 4th for that phrase on Google.
Proxy.org is the first place you visit when you get your proxy. It leads to automatic traffic, the only problem is that it leads straight to the proxified page. But in the end it will increase the goodwill value of your proxy because proxies spread like wildifre, and that fire is fueled by word of mouth advertisement. To get listed on proxy.org you first need to put a link to proxy.org on your proxy, and than use the contact form to contact Baron and let him know you want to be listed. He will add your proxy in the next update.
Foreign Blogs! I know I said that you wanted to avoid these guys, but it is good to get listed with them in the start. It will increase your search engine rankings and sometimes the readers of these blogs are from the US but just use these blogs because they always list new proxies.
You can start exchanging links with similar sites like Myspace Resource sites, arcade sites, and other myspace related sites, I don’t think it’s a good idea to change links with other proxies because you are just helping your competition to succeed. (Wait a second isn’t that what im doing by writing this blog post?)
Chat rooms have lots of users in them, and they are exactly the target market that you are looking for, try to drop your proxy in the conversation every once in a while without making it looking like you are spamming, because no one likes spammers!
Stay tuned citizens the next edition will show how we make $ money $ with the proxies, and I know you have all been waiting for that post. You can expect lots of screenshots in that post!
