We all know that Google bought out Feeburner for $100 Million. While we all thought that the main reason for the buyout was so that Google could finally find another way to monetize the internet, there might be more motives than just simply putting ads in our feedreaders.
Here are some predictions for what I think they will be happening because of the buyout of Feedburner by Google:
- Organizing Your Information
- Feedburner And Google Analytics
- Monetization (Duh!)
1) Organizing Your Information:
That’s the company motto at Google right? Organizing the worlds information. They have bought you a search feature for: images, video, news, websites, e-mails,and even blogs. So why not for feeds. There are A LOT of feeds and I’m sure the geeks at google will have a lot of fun making another secret alogritham to search through them all. Though I fail to see how they could make this any different than the blog search they already have.
2) Feedburners And Google Analytics:
At the moment with feedburner you can tell how many subscribers read your blog and how many use which particular feedreader.
Now imagine if you could check your feedreader stats in analytics. It would be an amazing resource if you could find out where the reader came to your blog and decided to subscribe, Or which post they were reading before they decided to subscribe. This type of imformation would be great for bloggers looking to increase the number of feed subscribers. (Speaking of analytics I’m having trouble with another blog of mine, and adding the analytics code, anyone good with this sort of stuff drop me a comment)
3) Monetization:
Obviously the most obvious of the three. Everyone knows that you can already monetize your feed using FAN (Feeburner Advertising Network), or text link ads. But it is an elite club and you have and average of 1000 feed subscribers over a 14 day period before you qualify, or at least a Page Rank 4 for Text Link Ads. And I’m sure once Google moves in they will let anyone with an adsense account monetize their feed.
