Why I Love .Info’s

Yesterday someone over at DP posted about how they would like it if Adsense had a feature where they could just block all .info’s in the competive ad filter instead of having to put the name of the site in one by one.
The reason he wanted to block all .info’s was because he believed that all .info’s are made for adsense or arbritage sites. I quickly chimed in with my petition that over 95% of my sites are .info’s! The OP quickly apologized and assured me that he wasn’t suggesting all .info’s are MFA but just the ones that are focused on his niche. It probably was true, but I just like to create a fuss.
This brings me to my point I love .info’s! I can almost always get the domain name I wanted, and they are cheap as hell. I can register 10 at a time without denting my walled. The damn things only cost me $0.88 each, when considering that a .com costs you about $4.95 at the cheapest you could possibly find it; I think the .info’s are a great bargain.
When I first started with .info’s someone told me that it would be very ahrd to rank with them because they are considered spammy by the search engines.
Well just for the people that like to hate, here is some information to consider before you try to scare people:
- #1 Site ranks in the 2nd page for the term ‘Myspace Proxy’
- #2 Site rank in the 2nd page for a term that can’t be disclosed here
- #3 Site ranks in position number 5! For another secret TERM!
Not bad considering 2 of the sites are only that way due to onsite optimization and nothing to do with builind backlinks.

.info’s only work good for certain types of sites.
proxies
informational sites (i.e. how to get rid of acne, etc.)
fansites (maybe)info’s are not very marketable (with the exception of banner and link exchanges) because they are not a TLD.
Not knocking your methods at all, it’s just my opinion.
As a matter of fact, you could probably teach me a few things about proxies. How is that going anyway?

Proxies are going strong. Will give an updated post in a day or two.
Yes, I am only using them for my proxies. But I am also using it for my youtube downloader site, seems to be going okay. Nothing Crazy.

Many people are don’t even know that an .info or .mobi exist, and when they see one they have a reaction like “WTF is this ?”.

I’m a big fan of .info’s too, but like kiley mentioned earlier - they have their time and place. You can’t do a .info for just anything and expect to get results. Just my opinion of course.
And moving forward - will the search engines and people in general ever lose this opinion that .info’s are spammy? I think as you see more and more sites do well with .info - this stance will change.
