Wordpress version 2.2 is available for download. Most of you should know what wordpress is, for that don’t it is the CMS (Content Management System) that powers this blog and millions of others like it on the web.
According to their counter it has already been downloaded 7,730 times since its release yesterday. Not bad for a 24 hour time period.
What’s new?:
- Built In Widget Tools: You would have needed a plugin to edit your sidebar before, or like me you could be slaving in the .php files.
- Speed: They have added a core plugin and have optimized the filter speeds to make blogs load faster and put less load on your server. That’s good news for you people that get dugg!
- FailSafe: They have installed a failsafe for plugins, which means taht any plugin that you may have installed that could have broken your blog will now not be activated.
Whats Bad:
I would suggest waiting before you upgrade as it seems that there is a bug that duplicates your sidebar. For example: “Recent Posts” would have another “Recent Posts” underneath it. Wait for about a week before you upgrade or check out the wordpress forums to find out when all the bugs are gone.
What do you think of the upgrade? Has anyone upgraded and not seen this problem? I believe that the error occured because people already had a sidebar widget installed and thats why it’s duplicating the sidebar, thats just my guess though. Let me know if anyone has upgraded yet.

That’s whack if you copy people’s content even though it would be easy to write that sort of simple article by yourself within 5 minutes.
Though I’ll reply anyway. I’ve upgraded on three of the WP-blogs I host, and only on one of them I had trouble for some reason. The other two worked well. But I solved the one problem I had - maybe a clitch with a plugin. Apart from that I had no trouble at all. WP 2.2 runs smoothly for me so far. No problems with plugins I use etc.
