Would You sell Out for $30k?

The Cow was recently asked that question in a private offer made to him for his blog JohnCow.Com.

The cow tastefully declined that offer as he thought that his blog has the potential to earn much more than that. IN the long-run I think he has made a very wise decision in not selling his blog.

Lets think about why:

Reputation. John Cow has built a reputation online, he is doing something not many of the other top-tier bloggers are doing in that he is periodically releasing his own products. So instead of selling reviews for $300 a pop or posting affiliate links all over the place he picks a product wraps his own little creativity around it and bam repackes that sucker to sell on to everyone else. Examples? Sure. first he released a wordpress theme that was a replica of his site for $89-$250 Im not sure how many of these he has sold but if we put a rough estimate at even $5,000 I think it would be fair. Alongwith that he also has started his adsense empire sites for sale. Though I don’t like the product you can’t blame him for making over 1k in one night with product sales from that alone

Monetization. His site is currently making over $3.5k from advertising alone. Taking the website purchase model of 10 months revenue $30k is a fair price. But that 3.5k is set to increase every month. As long as he posts even MEDICORE content on his site daily his traffic and visiots will be sustained and he will continue to earn more.

Perks. Look at his recent blog post! He is giving away a pass to affiliate summit because he got one for free. (BUT HE’S TOO BUSY ON VACATION IN AUSTRALIA!)

Why else do you think he made the right decison by not selling?

Do I think it was a fairly priced offer?

IF you look at the way that 45n5 have worked out the prices for blog sales you would see that they have calculated the value of a blog based on the number of RSS subscribers and not on the earnings since most of the sales that took place last month were not actually earning the bloggers that much money, but had the “potential” to earn money.

Im kind glad the Cow didnt sell out as I quite like reading his blog on a daily basis. Hell, its one of the few blogs I actually use my feedreader for.
